Heather got a hotel for us the night before, so after a delicious dinner at Blue Mesa, we partied it up in our room (with the help of some delicious Luke Bryan and some even more delicious s'mores bars)
The next morning, we got up at the crack of dawn and met everyone down in the lobby. It. Was. Early.
This is my niece Kaitlyn. Isn't she a doll? If you didn't know I had a niece, that's okay. It's a long story.
This is my step-sister Ashley. If you didn't know I had a step-sister, you're not alone. Another long story.
We made our way over to the race headquarters. Sooo many people. All with one purpose.
We walked as a company, and although I would have liked to walk a little faster, I really wouldn't have been able to anyway. The beginning of the race went through a neighborhood and the people that were trying to run were having all sorts of issues. There was estimated to be over 20,000 people there. Crazy.
Afterwards we went to the Original Pancake House for some brunch. Heavenly!
Pondering the days events while we waited over an hour for brunch. I guess everyone else had the same idea we did.
It was such an experience to see everyone there, with a common goal. To see the Survivor's Tent, and all the people there, and then seeing all the people walking with a picture of a loved one on their shirt that didn't make it... Ugh, it was heartbreaking. And inspiring.
*A twist to the story is that when Mike asked me if he could try out for another mock trial team, I made him aware that the weekend of the 15th would not be available to him. Hahahaha. Well, what do ya know, that was the week he was in San Diego. THANKFULLY, my mom was still here from celebrating Maddy's birthday, and she was able to keep the kids overnight for me. And she did a fantastic job!! Thanks Mom!
