Sweets

For some reason, my {skinny} sister-in-law decided it would be fun to get together and make a bunch of candy and cookies. We've had this idea to do a cookie exchange, but every year it gets away from us, so this is the next best thing.

One afternoon in December, I hauled all my stuff up to Newark and we cooked and baked and talked and ate into the night. It was so much fun.

Yeah.... S'Mores Bars were a late addition to the list, and we didn't have the exact ingredients. Kaitlyn and I improvised rather well, though!

Ashley didn't participate in much of the baking, but man, that girl can talk!! ;)

Heather made us the best chicken noodle soup & homemade bread EVER. And because I can never say no to steak, especially from Spence, I had some of that too. :)

I hope this is one of those things we always make time for! Love my family!

An American hero

America lost a great man today. Ryan Sharp, who is the brother of one of our good friends, passed away today. Ryan served in the US ARMY and was stationed in Afghanistan, and was hit by an IED bomb a couple of days before Thanksgiving. There are many more details than that, including an amazing example of the power of the priesthood, but the sad fact is that Ryan didn't make it.

I am heartbroken for my friends and for their family, and for the suffering they're going through. Not to mention that he leaves two little girls behind... I'm also heartbroken because I haven't seen anything on the news about Afghanistan / Iraq in quite some time. People don't seem to talk about it anymore. Have people forgotten that there are still brave men and women over there, fighting for freedom?! I know I haven't!!!

If you could please keep the Sharps in your thoughts & prayers, I know they will appreciate the support. And please keep the families of military men and women in your thoughts as well - they face harsh realities that most of us can't even fathom.

Thank you, Ryan, for your service, and for the ultimate sacrifice - your life.
