Graffiti Run 5K

We all know I'm not a runner, right?  Nope, not even at all.  I've gone in a few spurts of trying to get into it, but it just doesn't stick. Last year I wanted to do the Graffiti Run but for some reason, I wasn't able to get it together in time.  Luckily my friend Marlee was keeping an eye on things and let us all know when a Groupon became available for the run this year.

We all met at my house this morning (aside from Stacie, her Mike and her son Clay - they met us there) and put on our shirts Sarah made. {Horizontal Running Team - perfection!}  By the time we got downtown, I was a little nervous.  I'm not sure why, I just didn't know what to expect, I guess.  All of a sudden we noticed a little tub of bright yellow-green chalk, and people running over to it, grabbing handfuls and slinging it around. Next came a blue tub. HILARIOUS. Finally Mike & Stacie got there and we got psyched out to start with the good music and early morning chill.

(I'm leading this up to be more exciting than it was...)

We finally started running and there were So. Many. People.  Sarah & I ended up walking a good portion of it, which was fine, it wasn't a race!  (Okay, okay, it was, but I didn't care...) and all throughout the course there were different stations with different colors, eagerly waiting to be chucked into your thirsty, open mouth.  Yum.  We ran across the finish line, but not before Mike pelted me with some awesome purple chalk.

As people were finishing, we were all supposed to grab a pouch of the chalk / powder and wait for the DJ to tell us to throw it up in the air.  We caught the tail end of the first one, so we waited about 10 minutes before the next one.  They had set out a tub of more of the yellow-green, so Stacie and I went into the crowd to throw it while the rest of the girls hung back to get some pictures. Finally it was our turn!  3... 2... 1... POW!  We threw it up in the air, turned and laughed at each other, and then... we couldn't see anything.

All of the powder had settled back down and we couldn't see or breathe.  It was crazy!!!  We came out completely covered in a mix of every color imaginable. So, uh, gray.

When that was said and done, we went back to the cars, took a few pictures and then headed to Cracker Barrel for brunch. I should have known the attention we would attract, but I didn't figure they'd be as busy as they were. (It was almost 11 AM! Doesn't anyone do anything but eat in this town?) (Uhh, nope.)  We had some amazing food and a blast with each other. It was so cool to get to share this experience with some of my friends.  Love these girls!!

We will definitely be doing this again next year, but this time ALL our husbands will be joining us. Can't wait!!

The rest of the day has included me trying to sleep a teensy bit (and failing), reading a little, having Mike make dinner for the very funny missionaries, and watching Sleeping Beauty with my little family. And now they're sleeping and I don't have a lesson tomorrow and IT'S. THE. SUPER BOWL. Woot!

Go Niners.

SO Awesome. You are a runner. Once you have paid someone else so that you could run 3 miles to get hit in the face with chalk, it automatically puts you in the runner category. :)

Great job, Danielle! I don't particularly like running that much, but feel like it is the best workout (and cheapest). That looks like a fun time too!
